Getting Ready For The Holiday Season With Momtrends

18 Nov

Last week I joined Momtrends for their annual Holiday event.  Every year Momtrends brings together bloggers and great brands to showcase Holiday fashion trends as well as entertaining and gift ideas for the Holiday season.  This years highlights included:

Holiday fashion styled by Lands End and Stella and Dot. I had the opportunity to model a Holiday outfit from Lands End with four other great bloggers. For my Holiday look (pictured below), I’m wearing the Sleeveless Ponté Sheath Dress with Pockets, Women’s 3/4-sleeve Classic Cashmere Dress Cardigan Sweater & Emory Low Heel Boots (so comfortable) from Lands End. My accessories included the Pegasus Necklace (an amazing piece that makes a statement) & Déjà Vu Double-Sided Studs by Stella and Dot.  I will definitely be wearing it to my Husbands holiday party and every other gathering this Holiday season.

In addition to having fabulous outfits, Lands End has wonderful gifts for the entire family from wool hats to Holiday pajamas.  Stella and Dot also has amazing gifts for mom, grandmother, and daughters (they have a girls collection).

I’ve always loved Little Me.  I miss the days when my girls wore Little Me especially after seeing the Holiday collection at the event.     Their super cute clothes go up to size 4T.  Perfect if you are looking for a gift for a new baby this Holiday or if you need an outfit for your little one.   I love the Holiday pj’s, below.  Adorable!

One of my favorite things to do, especially during the Winter Months is cuddle up on the couch and read books with my girls.  We are always looking for more books to add to our collection.  I See Me Personalized Books showcased their latest books for personalization.  I love that they have Holiday books.  A great gift for the Holiday season because what’s more exciting than a child having their name in the book.  My daughter received a fairy book for her birthday one year and absolutely loves it.

Cookie Decorating with Walkers Shortbread.  Walkers has been around since 1898.  It’s hard not to love the delicious shortbread cookies.  They now have festive shapes which can make decorating cookies this Holiday season easier for you as well as for the kids, no baking needed.  All you need are icing writers and sprinkles.  The cookies are outlined so kids can fill in areas with different colors or draw the outlines of the shapes. Perfect for last-minute Holiday play dates or to bring to holiday parties. Note: the box states that it is not suitable for nut allergies.

I know what our Holiday Fun Friday is going to be spent doing.  We’ll be making duct tape crafts.  The Duck Brand has so many wonderful craft ideas, not to mention amazing deigns, on their site. You can also find more on pinterest.  Look at these fun ideas for your Christmas lunch/ dinner featured at the event, pictured below:

My daughter suffers from peanut/ tree nut allergies.  I was excited to learn about Vermont Nut Free Chocolates.  Their Holiday boxes are perfect to have at your Holiday party or a host/hostess party.  They make a great gift for teachers, friends and loved ones. No need to worry about any nuts.  Dying for another bite of the caramel truffle. Delicious!

Teleflora is one of my favorites for decorating any time of year.  Not only do they have beautiful arrangements that can transform a room, once the flowers are gone there are other uses for their containers whether you are storing your Holiday cookies or using a mug your arrangement for your morning coffee.  It’s the perfect gift for the Holiday season, not to mention they have collaborated with Cake Boss Buddy Valastro and arrangements come with delicious treats and recipes.

The most important tip for the Holiday season came from Momtrends founder, Nicole Feliciano.  She reminded us that the Holidays are for the kids and though it can get a little crazy it’s important to set aside special times with your little ones for hot chocolate or even a weekly ice skating session.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a wonderful start to the Holiday season!

Disclaimer: I did not receive compensation for this post.  I received a gift bag for attending the event in addition to the outfit and accessories.  Thank you Lands End & Stella and Dot for my outfit for the Holiday season.  Thank you to all the sponsors and a big thanks to Momtrends for a wonderful event.

ChaiseFitness’ Fit, Fab, & Fly Event

15 May

Picture 10

I love taking fitness classes and I’m always on the hunt for a good workout.  Last week I attended ChaiseFitness’ Fit, Fab, & Fly event hosted by Brianne from Stroller in the City at the 92Y location. Guests began the event with a workout by the founders of ChaiseFitness. I wasn’t able to find a sitter for my daughter so I could only observe the class from the window.  The class looks amazing and I’m anxious to get back and try it for myself.

A little about ChaiseFitness®:

ChaiseFitness® was created by mother-daughter duo Lauren and Rachel Piskin. The renowned fitness lifestyle studio located in New York City was born out of Lauren’s professional experience as a fitness visionary and former competitive figure skater and Rachel’s previous career as a professional ballerina with the New York City Ballet. The programs at ChaiseFitness® improve flexibility, balance, core development and posture in an environment that is at once intimate and invigorating. ChaiseFitness® is home to the Reinvention Method, a revolutionary chair-based workout that fuses Pilates, ballet, and strength training by incorporating an overhead bungee system, creating long and lean muscles while powerfully strengthening the core. With wildly popular signature classes such as Reinvention Chair, Ballet Bungee, Cardio Chair, and Long and Lean, ChaiseFitness® is devoted to lengthening and strengthening, nurturing weight loss, and ultimately transforming the body to the best it can be.

After a workout, guests enjoyed lunch from Chopt and a juice from Blue Print Cleanse while learning about other sponsors:

  •  ElementalTs are adorable T’s designed by two Brooklyn moms with children’s curiosity to know how things work.  Their designs feature detailed images of both wildlife and man-made objects in the style of line drawings found in classic science textbooks while keeping the fun and vibrant color combinations that kids really want to wear.  My daughter was fascinated by the tree frog and loves her new shirt.  Each shirt comes with an attached magnify glass.  My daughter took hers off immediately  and wanted to go to the park and start exploring.  So cool!

  •  Zen Home Therapy   is an organic green luxury cleaning service using non-toxic products using jasmine, lavender, and lemongrass essential oils.  All employs are trained to provide 5 star cleaning and organizing services in your home.

Picture 18

  • PRIV, an app available to schedule beauty and wellness services to your home (or desired location) within the hour, perfect for the busy mom. Services include: blow outs, hair cuts, manicures, pedicures, personal training and more. After workouts, guests were refreshed with a make-up application and manicure from PRIV professionals.  My daughter’s eyes lit up when she saw the PRIV table lined with nail polish and make-up.  She ran right into the line to get a manicure and a little gloss and blush. I got a manicure, using LVX polish, and received lots of compliments.

Thank you to all the sponsors, Stroller in the City, ChaiseFitness®, AlabGroup and everyone else for a fabulous event!

An Ultimate Night Out with Mommybites (Recap)!

15 Dec

Last Tuesday, I joined other parents and Mommybites for an Ultimate Night Out at the New Yorker Hotel.  The night began with a comedy show with  Lisa Blythe Perlman and Carolyn Castiglia.  After the show, moms, dads, and friends gathered for drinks, appetizers, and tasty desserts.  In addition to mingling, parents shopped and learned about new products and services available.  Parents left with a generous gift bag filled with products from sponsors and some walked away with raffle prizes from strollers to a round of golf.

Highlighted Companies/ Sponsors included:

New York Kids Club:

NYKC has six locations around  New York City.  They have opened locations on Long Island and their first overseas center in Beijing, China.  The Children Enrichment center offers a preschool program (3 hours for 2,3, or 5 days a week) as well as creative and innovative kids classes, day camps, birthday celebrations, and special events!    Daily open plays in the indoor gym are perfect for cold winter days or when there is bad weather.   Afterschool programs are available with a walk over option from local schools by a NYKC staff member.

We have been a New York Kids Club family since my oldest took her first class at 6 months. Both girls have attended the preschool program which has been fantastic.  NYKC offers fun drop off events on Fridays and during the weekend, if you need to run errands or you and your spouse want to grab a bite to eat or have a little time together.  Both of my girls started attending the themed Pajama Parties (Fridays 6-8) at 2 1/2 and always have fun.  The coaches are always energetic, fun, and the girls talk about them for days after.

For more information visit www.nykidsclub.com and while you are there check out their blog.

Inwood Country Club:

My husband loves to play golf any chance he gets.  Living in the city, I never thought about joining a country club because I didn’t want to spend hours in the car just for an afternoon at the pool while my husband golfs. Inwood Country Club is a private, member owned country club Located 20 miles outside of Manhattan on the South Shore of Long Island.  It sounds and looks like a great little escape from the city. Memberships include access to:

Ella’s Kitchen:

When it’s time to transition your child to solids, Ella’s Kitchen offers a variety of organic baby food options from new eaters (4 months) to toddlers (10 months and up) with lots of great flavors. Their meals and snacks are broken down into 3 stages, which go from smooth purees to more texture as the child gets older and learn to chew.  The stages are:

Ella’s also offers a selection of food for special diets which include gluten-free, lactose free, and vegetarian options.  Ella’s Kitchen is also free of peanuts and soy!  Their meals are perfect for on-the-go eating.  My girls love Ella’s Kitchen!  They still snack on Smoothie Fruits and Puffits.  Some flavors I would have been interested to try when my girls were younger are  the Ella’s 1 Blueberry Pear Baby BrekkieElla’s 2 Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Ella’s 3 Thai Curry Vegetables.  For more information visit Ella’s Kitchen.com and be sure to check out Stuff for the Senses.  Available at Whole Foods.

When the weather is bad or I am with my girls, getting a taxi is challenging.  They are either full or the taxi’s don’t want to stop because I have the girls.  GetTaxi, which began in Europe, recently launched in New York City.  GetTaxi is an on-demand taxi service.  Simply download the app for iphone or android, then make your reservation.  A  “G-Car” will pick you up and take you to your destination (watch it in action).  The app allows customers to know their drivers information as well as their license plates after the reservation is made.  When booked in advanced you are able to request car seats for your little ones, an option that is great to have especially when traveling longer distances to the airports.  Because they just launched, a 2 hour advanced reservation is required.  At peak times, a maximum surcharge of $5 will be added to your fare.  At all times there is a standard rate (see sample below). No more waiting, searching for an open taxi, or paying ridiculous prices during peak times!  Looking forward to giving it a try!  Check out this video

One of our favorite outings is to Color Me Mine.  My girls love picking their pottery and using as many colors as they can to paint it.  Our favorite to go is around Halloween.  The girls love going to the themed workshops.

This month the Tribeca Location will have these “Spooky Workshops”:

While I was looking up the events to sign-up for this Halloween, I discovered they also have PJ Party themed sessions on certain Fridays during the month.  If you paint in your PJ’s you will receive 50% off the studio fee!  Color me mine also allows you to bring your own food and drinks! In addition to Halloween, Color Me Mine also has other Holiday events.  The pottery makes a great gift for parents, grandparents, and friends.  A trip to Color Me Mine would make a great uKloo surprise too!  Find a Studio and Schedule of Events near you to get painting!

Mommybites Summit 2013 Highlights

7 May

The annual Mommybites Summit took place at the New Yorker Hotel in midtown last week. It was the “ultimate” night out with drinks, food, shopping and networking. Highlighted sponsors/vendors included:

20130506-211948.jpgSaving Mothers:    Until you see the numbers , you don’t realize how many pregnancy related deaths and complications could be prevented in other countries that don’t have the resources and training that our doctors and physicians have in the U.S. Prior to the event, I had not heard of Saving Mothers, a non-profit organization committed to improving maternal care in developing countries.

In rural Guatemala, only 25% of births are attended by medical professionals.  Saving mothers provides training, educational outreach, and birthing kits (pictured below) to comadronas, Mayan traditional birth attendants, who are well-respected but often untrained.  There is a midwifery program for U.S. trained midwives to go to Guatemala to observe Mayan birth practices, exchange ideas and share practices with comadronas.

In Liberia, Saving Mothers volunteers provide sanitary birthing kits, prenatal care, postnatal care, cesarian sections, training sessions for medical staff , as well as oncologic and urogynecologic procedures.  The organization is currently working on fistula repairs, as they pose a health crisis to women in Liberia.

In the Domenican Republic, the organization is training health workers to better understand women’s health issues, identify and treat pelvic prolapse, incontinence, and abnormal pap smears.

Check out their Mother’s Day Campaign, their blog, and find out how a donation can help their amazing cause!

20130506-211957.jpgWeleda:  Weleda has made natural beauty and wellness products for over 90 years.  They pioneered the use of Biodynamic and organic ingredients in skin care because they believe beauty isn’t something made in a lab-it’s something that should be cultivated from the earth without pesticides and chemicals.  They have 50 acres of Biodynamic gardens in Germany. On display at the Mommybites Summit, was their Baby Care line in which their products are made with calendula, a gentle and nourishing botanical possesses powerful healing and anti-inflammatory properties.  Both of my girls have sensitive skin and eczema so anything all natural and gentle is a bonus.  After speaking with representatives at the Summit, I learned that a line of Eczema products is in the works for 2014.  The Baby Care line is suitable from birth on.  There is also a line just for Mom.  To learn more about all Weleda products, visit their website or facebook page.

20130506-212011.jpgRodan and Fields Dermatologists: As we age, we notice a difference in our skin.  We get wrinkles, extra sun spots, and some sagging.  Knowing about products to help slow down the ant-aging process are always a plus.  Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields, creators of Proactiv Solutions, make skin care easier at home with their ant-aging products.  Their products include the:

  • Redefine Regimen, a complete skincare program to visibly firm skin and reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores. The patent-pending Macro Exfoliator sweeps away dead cells in just 5 minutes, once a week.
  • Reverse Regimen, exfoliates lightens, brightens and protects your skin for a more even tone and texture.
  • Soothe Regimen, helps reduce inflammation, strengthens skin’s natural moisture barrier, calms redness, and reduces irritation.
  • Unblemish Regimen, combines acne fighting and skin-lightening medicines to clear skin, control oil production, kill bacteria, prevent post-acne dark spots, and protect against UVdamage.

It was an amazing night out with many more fabulous sponsors/ vendors and great prizes won by many during a raffle. Can’t wait to go back next year!

One of my daughter’s favorite events last year was the New York Kids Food Festival at Citi Pond at Bryant Park (see post).  The Kids Food Festival has partnered with Cooking Light and the James Beard Foundation to help fight childhood obesity.  The event engages children in fun activities such as a food plate scavenger hunt, cooking sessions, performances and a chance to get up close with some of your favorite characters in hopes to teach families and children how to make balanced choices with food.  Build your own pizza or make spiced gluten-free waffle sticks in one of the cooking sessions.  Tickets are required for each session.  Free events will include a meet and greet with Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba as well as performances from The Dirty Sock Funtime Band and Super Sprotz.  Click here for a complete list of events, times and dates.

Washington D.C. friends, family and followers, keep checking the Kids Food Festival website for an event near you!

Pantene PRO-V Expert Collection (GIVEAWAY)

25 Jan

Picture 7

20130123-131111.jpgLast week I attended an event with Momtrends and Pantene to celebrate the Pantene PRO-V Expert Collection. The event took place at the gorgeous MPE Penthouse. The space offered stunning views of Manhattan while attendees mingled, sipped cocktails and ate passed hors’ dourves by a blazing fire. Dr. Jeni Thomas, P&G’s Senior Scientist, was in attendance to speak about the hair aging process and the Expert Collection. She was available for questions and answers after. Below is information you may find helpful that I learned from the event:

  • The Expert Collection is more complex to address the issues of aging hair. There is more proof behind the research than with Pantene’s base collection. It was created to help hair look up to ten years younger, add bounce, and a thickening agency is used to aid the loss of thickness in hair diameter.
  • Hair ages intrinsically, starting as early as 30’s, where biological changes impact scalp oils. It also changes extrinsically, similar to UV exposure for skin.
  • The Age Defy products fight the 7 signs of aging: Breakage, Split Ends, Frizz, Unruly Grays, Lackluster Color, Thin Look, and Dryness.
  • How to prevent gray hair? Gray hair is all about biology. Blame your mother! 😉 Environmental factors and smoking may also contribute to early gray hair.
  • Women with curly hair may notice that their hair is drier because the oils from the scalp have difficulty traveling down the curvy strands. Advanced Keratin Repair products are helpful to moisturize curly hair. Try the 60 Second Therapy and the Split End Fuser.

After we learned about the collection, attendees were able to get their hair done by stylists using Pantene products. There were three styles to choose from and I chose “Beach Waves” because I thought I could recreate it at home if freelance stylist, Owen, explained how he created the look. Seems a little harder than I anticipated but one tip he gave was wrap the hair around the curling iron and don’t use the clamp.

IMG_5131I am constantly on the search for hair products to keep my hair looking shiny and healthy. My hair is thick, frizzy, and has a lot of split ends. To get it straight, I have to blow dry and straighten my hair. Most products I have found that my stylist uses are at least $20 a bottle, if not more, and I get home and don’t love them. For participating in the event, I received products from the Expert Collection to test out. Right now I am using the Advanced Keratin Repair line and love it. Not only does it smell amazing, it leaves my hair looking shiny and smooth.  It is also a lot less than the products I had purchased before. My mom was visiting recently and found that it was nourishing to her aging, color treated hair.  She was also pleased by the smoothness and shine (pictured on right).
