The Perfect Stroller For Small Spaces & Traveling #GBQbit

24 Sep

The GB Qbit made it’s official release in July.  We had the chance to try it out. As you can imagine, city-life requires a lot of walking.  I average 7 miles a day.  A lot for a young child which is why I rely on a stroller to get my youngest around.  Space is few and far between in NYC. You have to get creative in finding space for the every day stroller that can navigate through the snowy winters as well as the light-weight stroller that’s easy to take up and down the subway steps.   It can be tough.

IMG_3380
The GB Qbit is easy to fold, one-handed, and is compact. It fits easily on my closet shelf, leaving floor space, something that is very important in apartment living.  I also found the stroller to be ideal for traveling. For navigating the subway stairs, it’s light-weight, only weighing 14 pounds.  There is a built in carrying bag, perfect for protecting the stroller when traveling by air. It also fits easily in the back of our car.

Other fabulous features include:

  • Removable Cup holder
  • Transport Bag
  • Fits most many airline overhead compartments
  • Expandable sun canopy
  • Under basket for diaper bags, toys, or groceries home.
  • Affordable compared to many strollers, $179.99 at Toys R Us and Babies R Us.
  • Infant Car Seat compatible with GB Asana35, Maxi cosi Mico AP, and Cybex Aton.
  • Watch it in action here

So far the stroller has been fabulous. My daughter loves it. I am interested to see how it holds up navigating the streets of NYC or traveling during the winter months.  I will definitely keep you posted.

Thank you for the opportunity to share our experiences with the GB Qbit Stroller. I received a stroller as part of the review.

Get Caught Reading: Personalized Books Engage Young Readers (plus Discount Code)

19 May

Picture 20 Picture 19

Did you know May is National Get Caught Reading Month?  In a digital age where kids are often seen holding iPads or their parent’s smart phone, it’s exciting when kids want to read and are engaged in their books.  I love seeing when my girls pick up a book and read.  Not because I made them or because it was homework but because they love what they are reading. Personalized books are a great way to engage kids and encourage them to “get caught reading”.

IMG_0889

I See Me offers personalized books for kids.  Include your child’s birthdate, gender, hair color, skin color, add a photo of your child, create a message/ dedication to them, choose your child’s favorite color, as well as add the name of their best friend and/ or sibling(s).  Each story will be unique and fun for your child to read.  They are able to relate and will want to read it over and over again.  The books make a wonderful gift for new babies or birthdays.

IMG_1286

My oldest received her first I See Me, My Very Own Fairy Tale  book as a gift when she was born, almost 7 years ago.   When  she was a toddler, I read it to her and she couldn’t believe that the story was about her.  She recognized her name.  Now that she is reading, she loves to go back and read her “very own fairy tale”.

IMG_1283 IMG_1284

My youngest, 5, just received her first I See Me book.  She loves when I snuggle in bed with her and read at night.  I chose Sweet Dreams, Fairy for her first book.  The first time I read it to her she leaped out of bed surprised and excited that there were fairies named after her best friend and sister.  She loves it so much, I catch her “reading” all the time-not just at bed time.  She reads it to her dolls and our most recent visitor, my brother’s French Bulldog.  It’s a sweet story with beautiful illustrations.

I See Me offers personalized products for everyone and every occasion.  In addition to books they offer personalized lunchboxes, puzzles, placemats, coloring books, stickers and growth charts.

Keeping Your Little One Close A Little Longer ( líllébaby Organic Carrier Review)

20 Jan

Picture 20

I was introduced to líllébaby at the Big City Moms Biggest Baby Shower back in November.  I was given the líllébaby Complete Organic black baby carrier to review.  I relied on my carrier when my girls were younger but never thought about using it up to the weight limit with an older, heavier child.  It’s easy to forget my youngest is only three and still gets tired easily. When people meet my daughters for the first time, they always ask if they are twins. They are shocked when I tell them that my youngest is ONLY 3.  She is very tall, she wears the same size and has a bigger foot than my 5-year-old so I was a little hesitant trying the carrier with her.  Initially, I thought I would borrow a baby because there are times I help friends and watch their little ones and the carrier would be helpful.  I realized that there were some situations that an older child could use a carrier!

20140120-194722.jpg

There are many times we can’t bring our stroller out and rely on the girls walking.   The other day I took the subway to a stop without an elevator. My youngest did fine walking most of the outing but towards the end she started getting tired. I brought the carrier in my bag, just in case, because I had bags to carry and knew I wouldn’t be able to carry them and her at the same time. It worked great for the walk home. I really miss the baby wearing days and wish I had done it more often so was excited to use the carrier with her. I wore her facing me because I wanted to snuggle with her and cherish the moment she was close.  Not to mention it kept her warm on the brutally cold winter day.  I have to admit, I was a little shocked that she fit in it, especially with all the winter gear.  I was also surprised at how comfortable it was.  Not long ago my husband was at my brother-in-laws, a five-story walk-up with no hallway to keep the stroller, and had to carry her all the way back to our apartment, not an easy task.  It would have been so much easier if we had the carrier to keep her from slipping down our jackets and would have distributed the weight evenly.  The carrier would also come in handy when there is a lot of snow its  hard to push the stroller though uncleared sidewalks and streets.  My youngest is funny about walking a lot in the snow and asks to be carried.

20140120-193555.jpg

A few friends and cousins are expecting their first child in 2014! I am recommending and passing on the líllébaby Complete Organic Carrier since my daughter is almost to the weight limit.  I love that it is organic,  soft, available in different colors, an insert isn’t needed for the newborn stage, there are a variety of ways to carry your baby/ toddler, the weight limit goes up to 45 lbs to keep your “baby” close to you a little longer and it is machine washable for all the spit-up and snacks that land on it! 🙂

Picture 19

Other reasons you’ll love the líllébaby Complete Organic Carrier:

FEATURES

  • Weight: 7 lbs- 45 lbs
  • No insert needed for newborns
  • All-in-one carrying- front, hip or back; baby face in, out, or in fetal position.
  • Ergonomic leg position in every setting, including when baby is facing forward.
  • Seat adjusts to perfectly fit baby at every stage and enables carrying through the otherwise “baby wearing gap.”
  • Adjustable neck support with elastic attachments gives ideal support while allowing for movement.
  • The adjustable torso is taller than most brands, giving your baby sturdier support and better posture.
  • Padded side straps protect baby from webbing.
  • Removable sleeping hood adjusts in length and includes elastic edging for comfortable fit. Protects from sun and wind, gives privacy and supports baby’s head while sleeping.

EASY TO USE, COMFORTABLE ERGONOMIC CARRYING

  • Ergonomic design with optimal weight distribution.
  • Unique lumbar support provides lower back support and prevents webbing strap from sliding and “cutting” into wearer’s waist.
  • Sliding adjustment chest strap with a mesh-lined pad that protects and simplifies locating buckle on your back.
  • Ergonomic shoulder pads are sturdy 3 inch (7.5 cm) wide with one inch thick (2.5 cm) premium foam.
  • Extra long straps generally fits adults body heights 5’ to 6’ 6 (fit may vary depending on body type and weight.)
  • Wide waist band with 1/4 inch high-performance foam.
Loving this unique design for 2014!

Last Tuesday, I joined other parents and Mommybites for an Ultimate Night Out at the New Yorker Hotel.  The night began with a comedy show with  Lisa Blythe Perlman and Carolyn Castiglia.  After the show, moms, dads, and friends gathered for drinks, appetizers, and tasty desserts.  In addition to mingling, parents shopped and learned about new products and services available.  Parents left with a generous gift bag filled with products from sponsors and some walked away with raffle prizes from strollers to a round of golf.

Highlighted Companies/ Sponsors included:

New York Kids Club:

NYKC has six locations around  New York City.  They have opened locations on Long Island and their first overseas center in Beijing, China.  The Children Enrichment center offers a preschool program (3 hours for 2,3, or 5 days a week) as well as creative and innovative kids classes, day camps, birthday celebrations, and special events!    Daily open plays in the indoor gym are perfect for cold winter days or when there is bad weather.   Afterschool programs are available with a walk over option from local schools by a NYKC staff member.

We have been a New York Kids Club family since my oldest took her first class at 6 months. Both girls have attended the preschool program which has been fantastic.  NYKC offers fun drop off events on Fridays and during the weekend, if you need to run errands or you and your spouse want to grab a bite to eat or have a little time together.  Both of my girls started attending the themed Pajama Parties (Fridays 6-8) at 2 1/2 and always have fun.  The coaches are always energetic, fun, and the girls talk about them for days after.

GetTaxi:

20131215-233659.jpg

When the weather is bad or I am with my girls, getting a taxi is challenging.  They are either full or the taxi’s don’t want to stop because I have the girls.  GetTaxi, which began in Europe, recently launched in New York City.  GetTaxi is an on-demand taxi service.  Simply download the app for iphone or android, then make your reservation.  A  “G-Car” will pick you up and take you to your destination (watch it in action).  The app allows customers to know their drivers information as well as their license plates after the reservation is made.  When booked in advanced you are able to request car seats for your little ones, an option that is great to have especially when traveling longer distances to the airports.  Because they just launched, a 2 hour advanced reservation is required.  At peak times, a maximum surcharge of $5 will be added to your fare.  At all times there is a standard rate (see sample below). No more waiting, searching for an open taxi, or paying ridiculous prices during peak times!  Looking forward to giving it a try!  Check out this video

The Biggest Baby Shower

17 Nov

big City Moms collage

I remember the day I found out I was pregnant with my first.  It was an exciting time but as I got closer to my due date I started getting nervous.  Shopping was definitely fun but I had no idea what I was going to need or where to begin with my registry.  What do I NEED that will keep my baby safe, healthy, and will help her meet developmental milestones?  I was the first of my friends to get pregnant and I was new to New York so I was clueless about where to shop and what to shop for.

I recently attended The Big City Moms Biggest Baby Shower for the first time.  I wish I had known about this event when I was pregnant with my girls.  On November 13, new and expecting parents gathered at the Metropolitan Pavilion to learn about the latest baby gear, clothing, feeding and services available for a smooth transition to parenthood.  Various brands and representatives were available to educate parents on safety and choosing what’s right for you.  New and expecting parents had the best for baby (and parents) all in one room.  I have to say a lot has changed since my first pregnancy (5 1/2 years ago) and even my second (4 years ago).  I can’t believe how much is out there. Below you can find a little of what parents experienced and saw at the Biggest Baby Shower:

Get Strolling:

Choosing a stroller is challenging.  There are so many things to think about.  Had I known that I was going to have my second so soon, I would have opted for a stroller that could transform to a double and have a wheel board.  I also wish I had pushed a few around before.  Attendees were able to talk to various stroller brand experts to learn the latest features and give strollers a test drive to decide what best suites their new family.  Representatives from Orbit, Joovy, UppaBaby, Mama’s and Papas, Quinny, Britax, and Baby Jogger were in attendance.  So what’s new? Early next year you will be able to design your own stroller on Orbit.com.  A black frame and more fabric color choices will be available.  The Joovy TooQool is a new double stroller with a bumprider board that can be attached (love this stroller).  Also, new to Joovy is the Caboose VaryLight, in stores soon.

Time to Eat:

Mixie is an awesome bottle, making feeding on the go easier.  Two compartments separate the formula and water. When ready to feed your baby, push a button to dispense formula, then mix.

Liza from SageSpoonfuls was demonstrating how to make baby food with the SageSpoonfuls Immersion Blender and Food Processor.  Glass jars for storing baby food will be available soon!

A Fashionable Mom and Baby:

Lucky Brand was a favorite when I had my first.  At one point they stopped their baby and kid line.  I was happy to learn at the Biggest Baby Shower that baby and kid clothes are available online and in stores again.   You’ll also want to shop Ruum for your new baby.  The clothes are adorable!

TWELVElittle offers fashionable and functional diaper bags to help moms look great while carrying everything they need for their new baby.

Keep it Separate:

I’ve never like packing dirty clothes with clean clothes.  Especially, when my girls were infants and going through multiple outfits a day.  I would go through so many ziplock bags to keep the clothes separate.  Free Like Birdie offers green products to keep your clothes organized and separate without being wasteful.  Great for traveling or diaper bags.

In addition to shopping and testing out new products, new parents attended seminars (click for topics discussed and a list of speakers).

Christy Turlington Burns & Jeanne Faulkner from Every Mother Counts spoke about Maternal Health and Birthing Options. Image from Big City Moms!

Bunny Love (@BarefootDreams)

13 Jul

Image from Barefoot Dreams

When I was pregnant with my oldest child, my friend gave me a Barefoot Dreams Cozy Chic Bunny Buddie as a baby shower gift. She never got attached to it so it just sat in a drawer. A few years later, when my second was a few months old, my oldest found “Bunny” and gave it to her little sister. My youngest and “Bunny” have been inseparable ever since. Of course with the exception of when “Bunny” takes a bubble bath and she has to use the back-up bunny. She doesn’t like back-up bunny nearly as much and tosses it to the side as soon as her favorite bunny is done drying.
I mentioned in my MAM post that we can’t go anywhere without the duo “paci and bunny”. If they get left we have serious problems, especially bunny because my daughter has to rub her satin ears against her face to fall asleep; some part of bunny always has to be touching her. My youngest also gives bunny love by rubbing bunny against our cheeks. Bunny is her best friend and lovie so if something were to happen she would be heartbroken. We were an hour away from leaving for The beach for a week when I hear cries “bunny, bunny, bunny… ” coming from the other room as I was finishing packing. My older daughter kept saying don’t come in here Mom so I knew something had happened but I wasn’t ready for what I walked into.

20130713-080826.jpgMy heart sank when I saw “Bunny”. My youngest couldn’t stop crying, her sister hurt bunny. She was trying to steal it away why bunny split down the belly. My oldest started crying because she felt horrible and it was sweet because she kept telling my youngest she could have her teddy to sleep with. I knew that wasn’t going to work and the other bunny wouldn’t work so I had to start surgery on bunny before we jumped in the car for a long ride to the beach. Both girls fell asleep because they had gotten so upset. An hour later surgery was complete. Bunny will have a scar but my youngest was relieved when she woke up to bunny next to her and was even more excited to have her for the long car ride.

20130713-080848.jpg

We love our Barefoot Dreams Bunny. One of the best gifts I received and although my oldest didn’t use it, my youngest has gotten so much love and joy from it.
Does your child have lovie or security blanket? Have you had a moment in which you lost it or it tore? What did you do?

You’re 3 Already?

5 Apr

Today my baby celebrates her 3rd birthday! I’m a little sad because I have no idea where the past three years went. They have flown by and now my baby is no longer a baby. She makes sure to let me know everyday: “Mommy, I’m a big girl now, see I wear panties”. With my first, I wasn’t sad because I knew I still had my younger one. But now, both of my girls are getting so big and both frequently tell me “GO AWAY MOMMY, we are playing” or “stop, I can do it myself”. As much as I don’t like my youngest running to my bed in the middle of the night, it makes me happy that she still wants to cuddle with me and she needs me to comfort her. If 3 makes me this sad, I can’t imagine how 5, 16, and 21 will make me feel. Happy 3rd Birthday, we all love you! Hopefully, this year won’t go by so fast.

Bluum To Launch Toddler Box In January

2 Dec

20121202-220859.jpg

I recently attended an event at Piccolini for the upcoming launch of the bluum toddler box. Bluum is an online, monthly subscription service that sends new moms a beautifully curated box containing sample and full size beauty, wellness and baby care products. The Bluum team scours the globe to find the latest products and fill each box with useful, healthy and responsible choices for you and your little ones. Founded in 2011, bluum began with a baby box and will launch the toddler box in January 2013 for $24.95 a month. Bluum customizes the boxes based on your child’s age, sex and needs. You can subscribe for one month, six months, or a year depending on what suits you. At the launch, I revceived a box as a sneak peek about what a subscriber would expect in the box. When I returned home, my girls were ecstatic to see what was in their box. They found these awesome products:

My girls love checking the mail. They look for our apartment on the mailboard to see if we received any packages and when there isn’t a toy magazine or something addressed to them they think the mailman forgot them. With a subscription to bluum toddler they would know they are getting a package once a month and every time they open the box they would be surprised by what they receive. Some products we may know and others we will discover. We can’t wait to subscribe when they launch! To find out more, subscribe, or give the gift of bluum, click links!
